Job description:

To install / commission customers rsquo; fire alarm systems and associated equipment in line with the current regulations, liaising with the Works department/Project Managers to ensure best practice and the most cost-effective solution. To support other engineers to ensure that they are competent to complete the work allocated to them and follow all Company and Health and Safety practices and procedures. To work as a team with colleagues and the Engineering team to build on the company rsquo;s reputation in quality and customer service. Principal Responsibilities middot; Undertake the commissioning of fire detection, and other associated systems provided that adequate training has been received to be competent in the associated products, to ensure that the system meets the specified requirements for the project. middot; Liaise at all times with the Project engineer/manager responsible for the delivery of the project. middot; Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with the Company rsquo;s quality standards. middot; Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function. middot; Provide technical support and guidance to allocated Engineers. middot; Liaise with the administrators to ensure commitments are met ndash; diary middot; Competence to review a programme of works and RAMs. middot; Ensure legible and own timely completion of all company paperwork in line with Company requirements as well as the paperwork of allocated engineers. middot; Ability to review a cause effects matrix and implement programming around that middot; Ability to review and spec from the client and build a C E matrix. middot; Work with the Line Manager to ensure Engineering Department runs smoothly. middot; The ability to be to demonstrate to the client and line manager all cause effects programming via software and live tests. middot; Plan own work, if required, and also carry out minor additions to existing installations in line with a line managers instruction. middot; Be responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate. middot; Operate in accordance with the Company Handbook and all Company and customer rsquo;s quality standards and health and safety requirements. middot; Pass on any potential leads for further business to the relevant Sales Manager. middot; Discuss any suggestions for system improvement with your line Manager. middot; Attend training sessions identified by the Company and identify and communicate to your line manager any personal training and development needs. Accountable for: middot; Leaving customers with fully functioning fire detection and alarm systems, unless your line manager/Customer has been informed of the reasons that completion is not possible, before leaving the premises. middot; All own documentation is completed and reaches the required destinations within agreed time limits. middot; Ensuring that customers are always satisfied with your work. Scope of Financial Authority middot; To arrange orders and collect goods up to a value of GBP500 when necessary to complete works in the due time. middot; To maximise overhead recovery and reduce costs. middot; To organise and feedback information to increase cost efficiencies. Key Competencies of experienced jobholder Skills: middot; Able to commission a fire detection and alarm system in line with manufacturers recommendations. middot; To ensure that as installed drawings tally with the finished project and communicate any variances to the Project Manager. middot; Able to fully test every aspect of the installed system in line with manufacturers recommendations and the project specification. middot; Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers instructions. middot; Able to develop and diagnose Cause and Effect software for the relevant control equipment, and to plan a full C E test as part of the Commissioning process. middot; Able to operate all required test equipment. middot; Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification. middot; Understands different types of cable containment systems. middot; Deals with customers, end-users, construction personnel and in-house staff in a professional manner. middot; Verbal and written communication skills middot; High level of ability in the use of bespoke manufacturers Software programmes and Windows based Computer usage. Technical knowledge: middot; Has a sound knowledge of control and field equipment and be able to carry out commissioning, fault rectification and repairs. middot; Understands the basic building service systems, e.g. air conditioning ventilation systems. middot; Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system. middot; Completed numerous units of FIA middot; Manufacturer trained for whatever equipment expected to operate. middot; All conventional fire alarm systems middot; Ideally a qualified electrician (City Guilds 236 Pt2, Pt3) or equivalent middot; Other supervisory training as the Company decides. Standards: middot; Conversant with the appropriate servicing and installation clauses within the relevant parts of BS 5839 P1 2017 Building Regulations and be capable of applying these standards to the commissioning of the system. middot; To operate business processes within the framework of ISO 9001 and LPS1014 Documentation: middot; Able to read prepared plans and technical sketches, repair systems in accordance with information provided, and record changes to and the location of equipment on the installation drawings and the O M manual. middot; Identifies and reports the requirement for new and additional works to the line Manager. middot; Accurately completes appropriate paperwork in line with Company requirements middot; Calculates the incidence of false alarms and prepares advice for the customer on the implications of these incidents. middot; To complete all documentation in line with Company requirements and ensure all engineers in the team have their paperwork completed on time and sent into the office
