Senior quantity surveyor

Abatec are currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client, a tier one civil engineering contractor, to work from their office in Exeter. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a company that works in a regulated environment where this is security of work on long-term frameworks. The successful individual will be working on a GBP2.8bn programme across the South West in collaboration with multiple contractors on the framework. The framework will initially run for a 6 year period with a further 5 year extension opportunity, potentially taking their partnership through to 2035, ensuring longevity of works. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will: * Ensure the timely submission of all relevant data required to monitor and analyse individual contract performance on a monthly and quarterly basis thereafter. * Liaise with Contracts Managers on the day-to-day commercial administration of contracts to ensure the financial success of construction operations and to keep the Commercial Manager appraised of all material events. * Prepare accurate draft sub-contracts and/or to approving such drafts as prepared by Commercial Team within the Region. * Supervise, mentor and encourage junior staff in their personal professional development. * Ensure consultation with contracts management that all necessary notices and submissions required by the various forms of contract are given in an expedient manner. * Ensure that main contract payment applications contain all necessary admeasure/additional cost claims and that the timely submission of detailed claims and final accounts is achieved. * Assist Contracts Manager in the administration of sub-contractor performance so as to ensure the economic and timely completion of all sub-contractor liabilities written into the sub-contract. * Ensure prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and subsequent cash collection together with the preparation of sub-contractor payments (strictly in accordance with specified payment terms). * Be involved in dispute avoidance/resolution. * Be responsible for managing meetings. Our client requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor with: * Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar. * Experience of working for a Civil Engineering contractor ideally within utilities/water. * Excellent communication skills. * A thorough understanding of NEC form of contracts. * Proficient knowledge of measurement and valuation. * Proficient in reading drawings, specifications and knowledge of construction process. * Ability to negotiate with clients/sub contractors and draft sub contracts. * Knowledge of CIS. * Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports and outturn financial forecasts. * Ability to work in a team environment. * Awareness of dispute procedures. * Experience of undertaking risk assessments and valuation of them in conjunction with other project team members. * Extensive experience of working on live projects and final accounts * Experience of value engineering. * Exposure to resolving disputes. * Successfully completed a number of final accounts. * Experience of procuring major works sub contracts * Professional membership of recognised institute e.g. RICS (desirable) Salary and benefits include: GBP60,000 - GBP65,000 per annum Car Allowance 26 days annual leave (with the opportunity to buy or sell up to 3 days holiday) Private medical insurance for yourself (with the option to buy family cover) Life Assurance Defined contribution pension scheme matched up to 8% 2 days volunteering opportunities Flexible and Agile working (dependent on your role) Enhanced maternity, paternity and parental leave Employee Assistance Programme including financial advice and guidance Professional membership fees If you would like more information, or to apply for this vacancy, please contact Hayley Fisher on (phone number removed).
