Senior geotechnical engineer

Our client Scottish Power Renewables are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for an on-going contract opportunity either based in London or Glasgow. Main Purpose of Role Main Purpose of Job The Senior Geotechnical Engineer is a critical role within the Offshore Renewables Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer role sits in the Ground Engineering Team within the Site Engineering Department and reports to the Ground Engineering lead (GEL). The successful candidate will support the ground engineering lead (GEL) during the construction phase for one of our UK offshore wind farms. The company adopts an intelligent client business model for ground engineering services. This comprises a relatively small pool of company permanent staff with differing sub-disciplines (e.g. geotechnical design, geotechnical survey, engineering geology, geophysical survey etc.). Projects are led by the GEL and supported by external contractors and consultants. The role of Senior Geotechnical Engineering is to support the GEL on a project. The successful candidate will be required to use their technical excellence to identify and manage ground risk. With a strong technical background, they shall define scopes of work, support tendering, and manage survey contractors and specialist consultants. Key Tasks As the Senior Geotechnical Engineer reporting into the GEL on a construction phase project, tasks will include: bull; Supporting the GEL on the project in the management of ground engineering risks and activities. bull; Supporting project ground engineering activities to continually identify, monitor and manage ground engineering risks. bull; Support the GEL in identifying where consultancy support is required to manage ground risk. Define scopes of work, tender and manage ground engineering consultancy packages. Supporting and advise the relevant packages during foundation and cable design to ensure ground risk is appropriately managed. bull; Supporting and advise the relevant packages during the foundation and cable installation to ensure ground risk is appropriately managed. bull; Supporting and advising the relevant packages during the foundation and cable installation to ensure contractual and commercial risk is appropriately managed. bull; Identifying and communicate ground risk to the GEL. bull; Ensuring the project surveys meet the design and installation requirements of the project packages through continued stakeholder engagement and management. bull; Supporting Ground Engineering components of the certification process in collaboration with relevant packages. To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate the majority of the following: bull; Education to Degree level in relevant engineering discipline. bull; Chartered or working towards chartered status with a relevant institution. bull; Significant knowledge and experience of design and installation activities for an offshore wind farm. bull; Comprehensive knowledge of offshore procedures, standards and guidelines. bull; The ability to balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, taking into account all relevant risks. bull; Comprehensive knowledge of quality processes, and health, safety and environmental legislation associated with offshore/marine construction projects. bull; Ability to communicate effectively and influence decision making with a diverse team of different expertise and experiences to achieve results. bull; Excellent document writing skills in English, and excellent ability to communicate complex problems in a simple manner to a variety of backgrounds. bull; Pro-active and diligent approach.
