Job Description Job Title: Transport Planner Section: Spatial and Transport Planning Directorate: Environment and Community Services Responsible to: Principal Transport Planner Responsible for: Not applicable Job Purpose To assist in delivering high-quality, robust, and transparent decision-making within tight time frames on transportation matters, ensuring that the Planning and Transport Strategy Division is recognized for its excellent service. The Transport Planner will support a small team of professionals, providing expert advice, creating and applying transport policy and strategy, and delivering successful planning outcomes. This includes liaising with Transport for London (TfL) on the Local Implementation Plan, advancing major transportation projects, and offering traffic and highway engineering advice. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Support the Principal Transport Planner and work under a Senior Transport Planner. Undertake transport strategy work including public transport initiatives, travel awareness (walking and cycling), and major infrastructure schemes, meeting corporate targets and deadlines. Liaise with TfL on the local Implementation Plan and annual funding submission. Provide pre-application advice and traffic engineering advice for planning applications, meeting corporate targets and deadlines. Assess, engage, and formulate clear and robust transport strategies in well-written reports. Stay updated on national and regional policy and relevant legislation, proactively responding to changes. Identify issues and propose improvements to deliver high-quality, customer-focused planning services. Ensure transport strategy formulation aligns with the Councils #39; corporate objectives. Implement components of larger projects under supervision to achieve organizational objectives and manage project changes. Present recommendations on straightforward transport issues at internal and public meetings, providing professional advice to Members and the public. Provide advice and guidance on transport best practices within a legal and policy framework. Meet service-wide and corporate performance indicators, targets, and customer service standards, including supervising junior officers #39; work. Prepare specialist evidence for appeals, presenting evidence at Public Inquiries, Hearings, and written representations. Participate in policy compliance, enforcement matters, and conflict resolution to achieve high-quality outcomes reflecting Council objectives.
