Small site chemist

Job Title: Smalls Site Chemist Contract: Permanent Working Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:00 ndash; 4:00pm / Friday 7:00 ndash; 2:30pm Salary: GBP27k Location: West Bromwich Our client who are a hazardous waste management company are looking for a Small Site Chemist to join their team in West Bromwich. You will work alongside site operatives and the Site Chemist Manager to ensure that chemicals are processed, stored, labelled and transferred in a safe, compliant and timely manner. To be considered for this position you must hold either a chemistry degree, HNC or HND and will have proven experience of working within this or a similar position before. Key Responsibilities of the Smalls Site Chemist: * Receiving, storing, and handling of hazardous waste into site. * Assess waste on arrival for acceptance checks and analysis, using the laboratory facilities or onsite testing * Compatibility testing of wastes in preparation for repacking or bulking * Laboratory analysis of site effluent and other customer samples * Repacking of wastes such as laboratory smalls, ensuring compliance with waste segregation, labelling, and packing requirements * Provide support to the senior chemist, Compliance manager and site operatives in the day to day running of the site in line with all relevant permits and legislation, to ensure effective operation of all area processes, managing input, through-put and output of wastes effectively * Ensuring the correct segregation and storage of hazardous waste, in line with all company procedures and regulatory requirements. * Working alongside site operatives to ensure that waste is processed, stored and transferred in a safe, compliant and timely manner * Assisting with the control of material flows through and ensuring container stocks are maintained to avoid delays and backlogs * Raising non-conformances and providing necessary information to allow these to be actioned * Occasional chemical listing and repacking at customer sites in preparation for collection. * Preparing outgoing load lists and booking outgoing wastes to the correct facility following the waste hierarchy using the QC system * Ensuring paperwork using the QC system for incoming waste is compliant correctly completed * To maintain effective record keeping and documentation, to include the running of the sites stock control system, production records and in-process records * This role involves mainly outdoor work and manual handling, with some laboratory office work. Requirements for the Smalls Site Chemist: * Hold either a chemistry degree, HNC or HND. * Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. * An adaptive and problem-solving approach to tasks, with good organisational and verbal/ written skills * Experience within the environmental, waste, or chemical industry would be an advantage * The successful candidate with be able to expand and develop the role and work in line with our competence business compliance training.
