Lead mechanical engineer

Hello, My client is one of the leading food processing equipment suppliers in the UK. They are currently in need of a Service Engineer. Peterborough based, but with travel both within the UK and overseas. They are in need of a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their site in Peterborough. ROLE: You will lead a small team of mechanical design engineers, especially for the Bakery sector. This role requires hands-on technical design leadership, in addition to managing the team workload, communication, quality, and long-term professional development of your team. DUTIES: Technical: * Provide technical direction to the team, producing sound engineering solutions to engineering problems, backed up with design analysis where appropriate * Develop and implement innovative solutions to problems incorporating the latest materials, manufacturing processes and technology to drive the product range forward * Manage product developments, ensuring changes are controlled and implemented across the product range to maintain a standard equipment offering * Take overall design responsibility for projects assigned to the team and manage them from project launch to completion ensuring all project deliverables are met * Ensure all required design standards and legislation are met and that supporting documentation is produced and approved * Take responsibility for equipment quality, resolving any design problems found during manufacturing or commissioning * Coordinate technical support to sales to help produce accurate project proposals and to manage project risk * Ensure designs comply to companies standards and quality procedures * Support and where appropriate lead mechanical testing in the factory and/or on site * Actively share knowledge across the department to enable learnings to improve all product sectors and to promote a common approach * Ensure commercial implications are considered and understood when decisions are made by the team, including business risk, quality, cost and schedule Team management: * Direct day-to-day management of team members * Recruitment and training plans for direct reports as well as mentoring of junior engineers * Management of project design cost, schedule and quality * Review and provide feedback on prospects incl. schedule, design hours and project risk * Deputise for the Engineering Manager or other Lead Sector Engineers when needed * Drive and be a role model for the company values behaviours * To be aware of and follow all company Health Safety policies and procedures, in respect of self and others SKILLS: * A degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or above) or equivalent * Strong hands-on experience in design, analysis and testing of mechanical systems * Experience in a relevant area experience of capital equipment: Food Beverage, O G, Pharmaceuticals * Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop innovative solutions * Prior management experience is an advantage, but not essential. * Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise accordingly * Ability to use 3D drawing packages and PLM Software, and to check mechanical calculations, * Customer-oriented and commercially aware LOCATION: PETERBOROUGH SALARY: UP TO GBP50,000 PER ANNUM PLEASE RESPOND TO ME WITH YOUR MOST UP TO DATE CV TO BE CONSIDERED Kind Regards, Maria Roque - Recruitment Consultant
