Automation controls engineer

Our customer is an ambitious advanced manufacturing company with game changing technology, and critically a team with the imagination and drive to become a global composites manufacturer. Our customer produces the lightest structures components for Automotive and Aerospace OEM #39;s. Our breakthrough automated process unlocks the performance of carbon fibre and composites for the first time, offering unparalleled weight and cost savings. They have a proven technology that can deliver real-life production components at industrial scale with potential to rival metals in aerospace. We provide end-to-end solutions, supporting our customers from concept development and product design all the way to advanced manufacturing and integration of components within their vehicle platforms. They have completed multiple technology validation programmes (with the European Space Agency, Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, F1 Teams) and is in the process of executing on the first production opportunities with leading OEMs. We are on the verge of a significant scale-up with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next 2-3 years and expand operations into Europe and the US. Our ideal candidate will have a degree level qualification in a relevant subject, several years of experience programming in an automated machinery environment. Experience of the Beckhoff programming environment and robot programming would be beneficial. Objectives of this Role Contributing to the development of the control program and operator interface for our tool. Supporting other team members during design, build and testing of the system. Supporting acceptance testing and onsite commissioning for customer sales. Responsibilities and Duties * Participating in Project Specifications to participate in a full life cycle design process. * Writing software for PLCs, SCADA and HMIs. * Working between a number of departments to ensure smooth communication and efficient delivery of projects. * Maintaining well commented and structured code. * New machine commissioning at our facility in Bristol * On site commissioning at customers site during installation * Out of hours support in a rota structure when required (max 1 week in 4). Qualifications, Experience, and skills We appreciate relevant engineering qualifications, but we equally value practical hands on experience. * PLC Programming experience (Beckhoff preferable, although others will be considered [Allen-Bradley, Siemens etc]) * HMI Programming experience (Beckhoff preferable, although others will be considered [Allen-Bradley, Siemens etc]) * Demonstrated experience in working with Servo Drives, Motion Control Products, Fieldbus devices and pneumatics. * Experience of robot motion beneficial * Experience of G-Code or similar would be beneficial. * Excellent communication skills * Willing to travel for on-site commission work (Estimated 10% of time) * Awareness of machinery safety related to CE marking.
