SEMH/PMLD Teaching Assistant needed for a specialist SEND school in Coventry Immediately Do you have experience working with severe learning disabilities? A specialist SEND school in Coventry are seeking a strong and confident SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. The school is a specialist setting for young people with extreme physical or emotional vulnerabilities, medical conditions, or a combination of the three. Some students are highly anxious and require a calm and predictable environment to access their education. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be part of a small team assisting a class teacher in delivering lessons to students, as well as providing support outside of the classrooms, while students are in school. This may include working with parents, social workers, and other professionals regarding the students and their needs. Your roles will include, 1:1 work, work in small groups, monitoring the school during lunches and breaks etc. Due to the needs of the students, there will be an element or personal care (toileting feeding) that will be required. The preferred candidate will have: * Experience in working with special needs (SLD, PMLD, SEMH) * Minimum 6 months rsquo; experience working with children and young people * Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum * Experience of using communication aids such as British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS is advantageous but not essential. * Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate. * Can effectively manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies. * Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support.
