Lead senior electrical design engineer

Role: Lead / Senior Electrical Design Engineer Sector: MOD Location: Birmingham Salary: GBP65000 - GBP75000PA (+ pension + life assurance + 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays + early finish on a Friday! flexible working week of 37 hours WFH Part week) Our client is a Systems integrator that rsquo;s on a mission to be the biggest and best in the UK and they seek a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work with a team and design electrical controls with E-plan software, SolidWorks that will work Variable Speed Drives, Motor Starter panels, Distribution systems with Allen Bradley / Siemens and other types of HMI/ PLC control systems. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer role involves the management of a team of electrical design engineers and to help drive change to make the department more efficient and subsequently profitable. The focus will be in identifying and implementing areas of improvement while ensuring the team are efficient in achieving deadlines. This will mean championing the development and implementation of standards and processes to help standardise the design process, whilst monitoring performance and striving for improvement in all areas including leading the team of designers. The Lead / Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for: * Work with Project Managers and the Technical Manager to ensure effective allocation of tasks. * Ensure that the team rsquo;s deliverables are of the required quality and delivered to projects on time and within budget. * Alongside Project Managers, manage the day to day flow of operations within the team. Maintain high levels of motivation within the team and be responsible for the welfare of team members. * With the assistance of the Technical Manager develop team members through regular reviews, mentoring and identification of training needs and assist in the monitoring of PDP activities of individual engineers. * Manage the use of engineering tools (E-Plan, PDM works, etc.) and identify / implement process improvements as required. * Assist in the recruitment of permanent and contract personnel. Ensure the team adheres to company policies and procedures. * Be a hands on Senior Electrical Engineer providing design solutions and guidance to other members of the team. * Take responsibility for the technical compliance of the electrical design to the customer rsquo;s specifications, including (but not limited to) Safety and Legislative compliance. * Take a senior lsquo;Principal rsquo; role and responsibility in design / project reviews by ensuring suitable data is available for the review and running them in a professional manor. * Production of the necessary design documentation to substantiate the design and application to a project (performance calculations, test plans, material and component selection justifications, etc.) to a high standard and can pass the necessary technical reviews. * Internal Engineering Management of Project Teams: Overlooking the everyday planning and micro-managing of engineering team members on a day-by-day basis, ensuring the correct quality of work is being produced and in the timescales agreed. Lead / Senior Electrical Design Engineer Qualifications and Experience * Degree Qualified, or equivalent experience, with MOD or Aerospace/Defence or Marine Technical experience (min 5 years) * Power Electrical Design capability - Including System design Component Selection * Proven Control and Instrumentation design capability * Relevant experience - Variable Speed Drives, Motor Starter panels, Distribution systems and PLC systems. * FMEA Safety Capabilities - Ability to write and carry out Safety Assessments + Reliability analysis * An understanding of Testing Automation * Experience with National Instruments (NI) Hardware Labview would be advantageous * Ability to use E-Plan Solidworks Electrical would be advantageous All respondents to this position must be eligible to work in the UK AND be a full UK citizen (no duel passports) #DesignEngineer #Electrical #ElectricalDesignEngineer #Automation #Testing #Assembly #PLC #Birmingham If you #39;re interested in this role, click #39;apply now #39; to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
