Waking Night Support Workers / Bromley, BR2. Fantastic opportunity for experienced Waking Night Support Workers to champion this lovely young boy, 8 years old who has Cerebral Palsy. Nearest Tube/Station: Bromley Wage/Salary: GBP15,00 gross per hour Driver Essential? No Essential: One year plus supporting a child with Cerebral Palsy and experience in complex cases. Non-smoker/Vaper. DBS or happy to obtain one. This role is open to *female applicants only. Start Date: ASAP Days Hours: We are recruiting for 7 waking nights, based on a two week rolling Rota. 2, 3 or 4 waking nights available per week. 7.00 pm to 07.30 am/08.00 am, depending on when school transport arrives. Recruiter: Janet (url removed) About this client/child: Harry, 8 years is at the heart of his wonderful family. He has an older sister who he loves to be around. Harry is very sociable and smart; he loves being in the middle of the action! Harry has Cerebral Palsy which affects all four limbs, he is unable to communicate verbally but points, and gestures and has some vocalisations. He has recently been supplied with a communication aid which he loves to use at home with his family and support workers. He loves his food but requires 1:1 monitoring due to the risks of choking so requires gentle guidance and reminding to slow down. The activities Harry loves being a part of are anything to do with water, he enjoys playing games on his iPad or watching The Wiggles on TV. He has epilepsy; and presents as a startle reflux, with extension of all limbs which lasts for a few seconds. Harry will communicate his feelings and needs by pointing, pushing away, or waving. If he rsquo;s not happy with someone there will be an obvious goodbye wave given! Overview of Role: There is a structured rehabilitation approach in place which you will be expected to implement when working with Harry. Therapy programmes and strategies will be directed by the Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist, and Speech and Language Therapist to increase and sustain Harry rsquo;s physical and communication progression. Harry rsquo;s bedtime routine is going to be a gradual process as Harry struggles to sleep away from his Mum. To begin with, Harry rsquo;s Mum will be the second pair of hands. Harry will be encouraged to start getting ready for bed when you begin your shift, around 7.00 pm; with teeth brushed, personal care carried out, story read and positioned in bed. He likes to have a teddy which is being introduced to help him move him away from sleeping with Mum. He likes to sleep in a quiet and dark room; he is going to require gentle encouragement to move away from sleeping with Mum and learn to self-soothe and settle for the night in his own bedroom. The plan, in time, is to provide Harry with waking night cover every night to allow Mum to slowly step back. 7.00 pm to 07.30 am more - information given regarding the overnight responsibilities when shortlisted. Who this job would suit: An experienced waking night *Female Support Worker who is kind, and patient and can bring creative ideas to helping Harry sleep in his own bed. You will be required to think on your feet, respect that you are working within a family home at night, be adaptable in your work ethic, and be empathetic. You must also bring a positive, respectful, calm energy to this role. Harry loves happy and fun people around him.
