Specialist biomedical scientist

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our Cellular Pathology Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic BMS to join our department and support the development of digital pathology reporting pathways. We are looking to expand our digital reporting capability and the post holder will be part of a team responsible for managing the digital workflow and quality assurance processes. As such an interest in Laboratory IT would be advantageous To be appointed at Band 6 you will hold the Cellular pathology Specialist Portfolio or be able to evidence equivalent experience. The successful candidate will be also expected to undertake tasks within the more specialised areas and techniques within the laboratory such as specimen dissection and immunocytochemistry. The department strives to continually improve and has several on-going projects as part of routine service development of which the Biomedical Scientist staff group participate in. The successful candidate will be expected to deputise for the team leaders and be involved in areas such as recruitment, training, health and safety, validation and verification, audit and other aspects of quality management. The Histopathology team consists of Histopathology Consultants and trainees, Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Associate Practitioners (AP), support and secretarial staff working together to deliver a high quality service. As a Biomedical Scientist the post holder will be expected to work within the professional standards expected as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The post holder will be responsible for scientific and technical service delivery within the Histopathology services section of the laboratory. Duties as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist will include performing a range of scientific procedures involving the processing of biomedical specimens to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and investigation of pathological processes and will include undertaking of complex diagnostic tests and the interpretation of complex diagnostic tests to facilitate a diagnostic report to be produced. The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, Health Safety procedures, departmental and organisational policies and good laboratory practice. Within their work duties the post holder will be expected to comply with the standards as required of UKAS and other relevant professional and regulatory Bodies e.g. H.T.A. The department is UKAS accredited and deals with approximately 18000 Histology samples We carry out approximately 9000 immunohistochemistry tests per year. It is staffed by a busy and professional yet friendly team consisting of Histopathology Consultants and trainees, Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Associate Practitioners (AP), support and secretarial staff working together to deliver a high quality service. We are a training accredited laboratory and have well-structured training policies for staff carrying out portfolio work. We have very high standards for work and expect the successful candidate to be aware of and contribute to improved workflows within the department.
